Let It Shine Quilt
Let It Shine Quilt - Details!
I am beyond excited to announce that my Let It Shine Quilt is here!
The PDF version can be printed here, and the printed booklet can be purchased here.
This quilt design came about with a love I have with log cabin blocks and how the long rectangular pieces frame the blocks. I love how they change the look of the quilt with the different color placements in the fabrics. I knew I wanted to have a play on the log cabin block by incorporating those long framing rectangular pieces.
These large oversized blocks were fun to put together without all the tediousness of working with small pieces. With the star blocks in the middle, the blocks take life when you play with fabric colors between all of the blocks. Do you like the traditional look? Or scrappy? How about super scrappy? This quilt pattern has it all.
It also has a quick easy crib size bonus block as well! I took one of the blocks from the original quilt design, and enlarged the size by 2x. Instead of a 24” x 24” block, you have a 48” x 48” block which is perfect for a crib quilt!
Jana from Nighthawk Quilting quilted on her longarm for me - and she did a fantastic job! If you haven’t checked out her shop, you certainly need to!
Color Ways
Let’s talk about the different versions of this quilt!
The cover version of this quilt design uses yardage with 4 assorted fabrics for the blocks and 1 background fabric. I chose to go with Pure Solids from Art Gallery Fabrics and highlight my brand colors. Since I recently have moved my quilting shop into its very own quilt loft, I wanted to celebrate by focusing on brand colors and embrace everything Fieldstone Fabric. The colors I used in the cover quilt are Banana Cream, Grapefruit, Fresh Water, and Cozumel Blue.
The cover version also has a set background. The background fabric I chose to use was Coconut Milk. However, there’s also a version in which there is no set background fabric. This allows for a scrappier look to the quilt. For an even scrappier quilt, instead of using the four assorted foreground fabrics, there are options for each block to use all different fabrics from all of the other blocks. A diagram is included to show how much fabric is needed per block, that way you can change up the fabrics for each block and embrace a scrappy quilt.
There are SO many variations to this quilt given the scrappy nature that can be used. So have fun! Be traditional and make a beautiful quilt. Or embrace your scraps and put them into an eclectic quilt. I can’t wait to see what you all create!
Quilt Sizes
Let It Shine Quilt has more quilt sizes than I’ve ever included in a quilt pattern to date. I’m so excited to be able to offer you so many sizes! First, there’s a mini size, which is a single block measuring 24”x 24”. I wanted to be able to offer a quick block that can be used for a large pillow, mini wall quilt, or some other small project. Then, the crib size is a must of course, which includes 4 blocks. Sizes increase to Throw (9 blocks), Twin (12 blocks), and finally Queen (20 blocks) size. It’s my first time offering a Queen size, and I’m thrilled!
Lastly, there is a bonus Large Star Crib size quilt! This takes the original block from the quilt and enlarges it 2x to make it 48” x 48”. I was able to make this quilt top within an afternoon. What a satisfying project! Also, it’s perfect for when you need a baby quilt ASAP.
Skill Level
This pattern is Confident Beginner. I love designing patterns that are approachable to all quilters, whether you’re a beginner or seasoned. As a long-time quilter, I still prefer more beginner-level patterns because I enjoy finishing beautiful quilts in a quick time-frame without a lot of fussing. I have a lot going on in my life with work and kids! I want my quilting to be relaxing and enjoyable.
My mom is not a quilter, but she saw the pattern and immediately said “That looks complicated!” I explained that it’s only 1 block but with different fabric colors, and so that makes it really easy. There are basic pieces that get pieced first, and then they assemble into a fun star block. Lastly, each block gets framed with long rectangular pieces.
Shops Carrying Kits
This is the first quilt pattern that I’ve designed and also have partnered with other shops for kits! I’m so delighted to be able to share these kits with you.
